Forgetting to Check ID

In Colorado, you should check IDs twice, once when the customer enters the building and again when the customer makes a purchase. Acceptable IDs are government-issued photo IDs from U.S. states and territories, U.S. military IDs, international IDs and federally recognized tribal cards.

If you forget to check ID, it can result in a suspension, a fine or a shutdown of the business. The fines can run between $10,000 to $100,000. You could lose the occupational badge that allows you to work in the cannabis industry.

Police departments like the Fort Collins Police Department have collections of fake IDs to teach others how to spot the trends in fake IDs.

Colorado added more advanced securities to driver’s licenses in 2016, but it took less than a year for fake IDs to copy the real IDs. You have to be able to see the face, expiration date, birth date and state seal.
