Denver police officers arrested on DUI charges
Anyone can be arrested on DUI charges, including members of the local law enforcement. Over the last few weeks, two different members of the Denver Police Department have been picked up when it was suspected that they were driving under the influence.
One of the arrests was made by a member of the Colorado State Patrol. It happened out in Castle Rock, and it took place on Feb. 14 — Valentine’s Day. That officer is facing charges for driving carelessly, for being under the influence and for having a firearm while under the influence. The officer is a long-time member of the force who started his career there back in 1995.
The other officer was arrested for both careless driving and DUI charges. The arrest was actually made by other officers who are with the Denver Police Department, working with that officer. He was found because he allegedly was making a left turn, did not yield properly and struck another car. His BAC results are not yet known but are expected in.
The second officer started with the department a decade after the first, in 2005. It has been reported that the officers were not on duty when these events transpired. They have now been moved to desk jobs while the situations are sorted out.
As this shows, a DUI arrest can have a big impact on your career, and that is true even if you do not work in law enforcement. If you have been accused of drunk driving, you must know what rights you have in court.
